Why Choose Wide Fit Shoes?

Did you know that over half of 900 women we surveyed in the UK said they needed a wider shoe fit? So does this mean the majority of women in the UK have wide feet or does it simply mean that shoe companies aren't making their shoes wide enough? We think it is the latter. It is really important to take care of your feet. After all, you only get one pair in your lifetime and once you damage them, there is no way back. Even if you don't think you have particularly wide feet there are really good reasons to opt for a wider fit shoe. Here are some of them..

1. Avoid Blisters and Corns

It should go without saying that wearing shoes that are excessively tight will quickly cause rubbing. Blisters will develop quickly and corns will develop over time as a result of constant friction between the feet and the shoes. Corns hurt and look bad. Although they can be treated, persistent friction in a few places will damage the skin over time and produce scars.

  1. Steer Clear of Hammertoes

In addition to unattractive hammertoes, which occur when the toes are pulled back and pressed into a claw shape, cramming feet into shoes that are too tight in the toe box area can also result in permanent deformity. Wearing certain types of shoes gets extremely uncomfortable as the toe becomes deformed and the toe joint sticks up above the other toes. You can avoid forcing your toes together into an unnatural shape by wearing shoes with a wider toe box.

3. Help Prevent Bunions

Even though the majority of foot experts agree that bunions are primarily inherited, wearing shoes that are too tight will only aggravate any underlying conditions, and wearing shoes that force your feet into an unnatural shape over time (like pointy shoes and Chinese foot binding!) can also cause bunions. Bunions can also develop as a result of overuse of high heels, particularly those with a tight front. While we don't advise against wearing pointy toes or high heels, you should make sure that they are the right width when you do. Your feet will have more room to spread out and are less likely to be forced into strange shapes if the shoe is broader.

4. Give Your Feet Space to Breathe

Wide Fit Shoes  give your feet extra space to breathe and your toes more room to wriggle. Where possible avoid man-made materials and opt for wide width shoes as it allows your feet to breathe which can help ensure you don't get sweaty feet
